NATIONAL CHOREOGRAPHERS INITIATIVE 2014
Created for the prestigious National Choreographers Initiative and premiered at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in 2014, Philip Neal's CAREFUL, choreographed to the eerily haunting minimalist music of Henryk Gorecki, is an innovative, unpredictable neo-classical thriller inspired by the horror movie genre.

Richmond Ballet 2013
The highlight of the evening was the world premiere of Philip Neal's "Phoenix Rising"… a contemporary ballet with a classic foundation that is based on the parable of the phoenix - an abstract, minimalist study in reinventing oneself. The production is set to the big, dramatic themes of Samuel Barber's "Symphony No. 1" and is visually driven by the pure lines of Holly Hynes' simplified white leotards and MK Stewart's brilliant fluorescent tube lighting - self-described by Stewart as "a living, breathing work of art."

Indeed, near the beginning, it seemed to reflect the spirit of George Balanchine's oldest surviving ballet, "Apollo."

Richmond Ballet 2012
Philip Neal's "Gargoyles"… is a delightful, challenging piece of choreography for six of the company's dancers, performed flawlessly on opening night. It also represents the growth of one of the company's — and Richmond's — own. Neal was a 12 year-old student when Stoner Winslett first arrived as artistic director. He went on to dance 23 years with the New York City Ballet and made such an impression that he has been entrusted with setting the works of George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins on ballet companies around the world
